The site lies at Alise-Sainte-Reine, in the Cote-d'Or department, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France, with the wider battlefield zone extending into the neighbouring commune of Venarey-les-Laumes. The 'Ancien site d'Alesia' is a registered Monument Historique (reference PA00112053), with successive classification decisions in 1908, 1924, 1925, 1953, and 1992. The Monument de Vercingetorix (1865) at the site holds its own separate Monument Historique classification (reference PA21000061), granted in 2014. No UNESCO World Heritage listing, tentative or final, could be confirmed for the site.
Recommendation
One of the most famous sites of the Roman conquest of Gaul, with a long and repeatedly reinforced French heritage-protection history stretching back to 1908.
