The battlefield lies in the province of Walloon Brabant, Belgium, around the municipalities of Waterloo and Braine-l'Alleud. Since 8 April 2008 the site has stood on Belgium's UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, under reference 5362, criteria (ii)(iii)(vi). This is a preliminary listing, not a final inscription; no separate Walloon heritage classification decision for the full battlefield could be found on a reachable official source.
Recommendation
One of Europe's best-known battlefields, and a candidate for full UNESCO World Heritage status.
