Editorial reading
The battlefield lies at Battle, East Sussex, and has been a registered battlefield since 6 June 1995 (Historic England reference 1000013). Battle Abbey, built on part of the site and traditionally marking the spot of Harold's death, is separately listed as a Grade II Park and Garden (reference 1000309, first listed 25 March 1987), covering 54 hectares. Most of the battlefield is owned by English Heritage and open to visitors.
Recommendation
The site of the single most consequential battle in English history, marked by a registered battlefield and a Grade II-listed abbey grounds since the 1980s and 1990s.
